CoachTrac is an advanced rowing coaching app that allows a coach to accurately measure a crew’s performance in real-time, eliminating the need for guesswork.

CoachTrac enables a coach to connect to instances of the separate RowTrac app, which are installed in rowing shell and used by athletes to provide in-boat telemetry. Once connected the coach is able to:

- View information relating to the performance of the boat, including stroke rate, split times, speed, time, location and distance.
- Graph real-time stroke rate and boat speed or view real-time acceleration curves.
- Analyse the information captured during a row. Activities can be broken down into individual rowing segments with further analysis available down to the level of individual strokes. Graph speed and stroke rate and view boat acceleration curves.
- Easily swap between boats to view both real-time and historical data.
- Record video overlaid with performance data. CoachTrac also supports frame-by-frame replay and video annotation capabilities.

CoachTrac uses bluetooth to connect to boats running RowTrac and is good for a range of 15-20m. The main screen displays a list of all boats being coached that are within range. The coach needs only to click on the instance of RowTrac that is of interest, allowing them to “drop in” on the session that is in progress. If the boat happens to move out of, then back into range, CoachTrac will automatically reestablish communications.

CoachTrac aims to provide solid and accurate real-time measurement of performance to a coach removing the need for guess work.

As with the RowTrac app, CoachTrac is designed by athletes and coaches for athletes and coaches. It is provided free to the rowing community and is an evolving piece of technology. The Author encourages participation in this project.
